To find out the efficacy and the general practical application of Gastrografin enema reduction, a comparative study was done of 107 intussusception cases in children. From September 1989, we reduced 63 cases with 1:5 diluted isotonic Gastrografin. The success rates were 75% with barium reduction, and 93.7% with Gastrografin reduction. The time requirements for the reduction were 15.3 minutes with barium, and 6.4 minutes with Gastrografin. Our results suggest that reduction of intussusception using diluted isotonic Gastrografin is a promising treatment modality for the future clinical studies with larger patient group suggested for confirmation of our findings.
