This paper examines the free vibrations of simply supported elastica arches. The shape of elastica arch is obtained by the third order theory and its differential equations governing the free vibration including the effect of rotatory inertia are derived and solved numerically. The frequencies and their corresponding mode shapes are computed over a wide range of system parameters. Experimental measurements agree closely with those predicted theory.
