본 실험에서는 바퀴(Blattella germanica)의 종령 유충과 성충을 실험재료로 하여 중장의 상피조직내에 있는 분비과립세포들을 광학 및 전자 현미경으로 각각 관찰하였다. 집바퀴의 상피조직은 원주세포, 재생세포 그리고 내분비세포들로 구성되었다. 내분비세포는 기저막상에 위치하였으며 재생세포 집단의 아래 또는 옆에 밀착하여 있고, 간혹 원주세포 사이의 기저부에 위치하여 원추형을 이루었다. 내분비세포는 다른 세포들에 비해 세포질의 전자밀도가 낮아 밝게 보였고, 골지체가 발달하였으며 미토콘드리아 이외의 세포기관은 별로 분화하지 않았다. 그리고 세포질에 직경이 약 200되는 분비과립을 갖는 것이 특징인데 이 과립들은 막성계를 가지며 전자밀도가 높아 검게 보였으며 세포의 기저부에 밀집되어 있었다. 이런 분비과립들 이 측부 또는 기저 원형질막을 통하여 세포의 유출되는 현상이 관찰되었다.
The endocrine cells in the midgut epithelium of the German cockroach, Blattella germanica were observed by the light and electron microscopies. The midgut epithelium of the last instar larval and adult cockroach consisted of principal columnar cells, regenerative cells, and secretory granular cells. Midgut endocrine cells were located basally as a cone-shaped single cell in the epithelium or below the regenerative crypt cells. When midgut epithelium grows and the epithelia cells transform between the endocrine cells and regenerative cells, desmosome -like junction and large vesicule -shaped stretches of loose contact were made. The endocrine cells were characterized by a clear cytoplasm with abundant Golgi complex and numerous secretory granules. The secretory granules in the cell were spherical and electron dense with about 200nm in diameter. The secretory granules have been discharged by exocytosis on the basal and lateral plasma membrane.
