우리의 고유 음악인 향악은 그 조율체계는 물론, 기본음이라 할 수 있는 황종음의 음고도 정확히 밝혀지지 않은 상태이다. 이에 대금, 피리, 단소 등의 관악기를 중심으로 한 독주 향악곡의 황종 음고를 측정하였다. 측정 결과 황종 음고는 대략적으로 328Hz인 것으로 나타났는데, 이는 E$^b_3$(311Hz)라고 알려져 있는 일반적인 이론과는 달리 E$_3$(330Hz)에 가까운 값이다.
In Korean traditional music, the frequency of Hwang-Jong tone is not known precisely, to say nothing of the temperament. So we measured the frequency of Hwang-Jong tone in solo pieces for the woodwind instruments such as daegum, piri and danso. According to the results of the measurement, the frequency of Hwang-Jong tone is about 328Hz, which is closer to the frequency of E$_3$(330Hz) than that of E$^b_3$(311Hz). This result is different from the existing theory that the frequency of Hwang-Jong tone is close to that of E$^b_3$.
