이 연구는 DDC를 사용하는 한국도서관에서 종교류를 재전개하기 위한 시안을 제시하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위하여 우선 DDC 의 종교류에 마련된 임의규정의 발전 과정과 문제점을 살펴보고, DDC 종교류의 임의규정은 단일종교가 그 나라에서 대표성을 갖는 경우에 대비한 것으로, 한국과 같이 다수의 종교가 공존하는 나라의 경우에는 이를 적용하기가 어렵다는 점을 밝혔다. 이 연구에서 제시한 재전개안의 특징은 DDC 의 기본적인 체계와 배열순서를 유지하면서도, 한국의 실정에 맞도록 불교와 동양의 종교를 강조할 수 있도록 한 점이다. 이를 위해 DDC 원안의 220-280의 7개 강에 전개된 기독교를 220 하나의 d로 축소하였고, 230부터 270에는 불교를 비롯한 그 밖의 종교를 배정하여, 여러종교간의 균형을 유지하였고, 특히 동양3국의 주요종교를 상위에 배치시켰다. 아울러 이 안에서는 불교와 동양종교, 한국종교를 강조하고자 할 경우에 대비한 별법(別法)도 제시하였다.
