This paper describes a general introduction to the major principles and the architecture of the EuroWordNet as a multilingual lexical semantic database. And it pays a particular attention to the building of the ontology and the classification of base concepts which are language independent. Some discussions are also given to the Inter Lingual Index system which links the various language specific wordnets and to some important differences between Wordnet 1.5 and EuroWord Net. This kind of multilingual system will provied many insightful informations about the building of multilingual Asian wordnet which covers Korean, Japanese, Chinese and English. We believe that the wordnet will be of essential use to various natural language processing systems based on Korean.
