In this paper, we tried to illustrate how grammatical categories are realized in Evenki and to elaborate on typological characteristics of Evenki with special reference to Korean. The language described in this paper is a dialect of Evenki Language, which is spoken in Samajie, Hulumbuir-meng, Inner Mongolia, China. This dialect is somewhat different from the Hailar dialect of Ewenki in that the former is free from Mongolian influence and preserves old forms. Generally, grammatical categories can be realized in various ways : i. e. inflectional, derivational and syntactic methods. Inflectional and derivational methods can be classified as morphological methods. Grammatical categories in Evenki are realized mainly by morphological methods (inflectional and derivational), and partly by syntactic methods. Among the grammatical categories that are realized morphologically, inflectional categories are more common than derivational categories. To be concrete, the grammatical categories of case, person, mood, and tense are realized by inflectional method. Aspect, modality, causative, passive, reciprocal, and comitative are realized by derivational method. And aspect, modality, and negative are realized by syntactic method. Having examined the characteristics of grammatical categories, we conclude that morphology plays a more significant role than syntax in Evenki grammar, that is, Evenki is a morphology-oriented language. And in comparison with Korean, Evenki is a much more morphology-oriented language.
