The concepts of material frame-indifference and material symmetry group with respect to isotropic scalar functions, as represented by energy functions, are discussed. An energy function for a structured heterogeneous (transversal isotropic) medium in large elastic deformations, which is known to satisfy the Ponyting’s effect [1], is highlighted.
