This study attempts to measure productive efficiency in the local public sector by using DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) technique. Generally, efficiency is defined as a ratio between inputs and outputs of production. Difficulty of calculation arises in the case of multiple inputs and multiple outputs since weights for each production factors and outputs must be determined in advance to calculate the efficiency ratio. DEA avoids this problem by calculating efficiency scores through radial distance between empirically determined efficiency frontier and observed position in the production vector space. To analyze the productive efficiency, solid waste disposal data from 69 local government units were employed. We were able to successfully identify twenty-four efficient local garbage disposal service units out of sixty-four units. In addition, relative efficiency scores for each units were calculated with the source of inefficiency by comparing most productive units. Managerial Information from DEA of solid waste disposal service can be used in the improvement of local service production. It was confirmed that DEA model can be applied to the measurement of productive efficiency of local government units which produce similar services.
