The introduction of information technology into the organizations managing knowledge and information which include libraries has caused some confusion to the identity of libraries and librarianship. The libraries and librarians in the societies whose library development lags behind like ours prefer being called information centers or information specialists to libraries$.$md librarians. This paper traces what has been discussed for the professionals, professionalism of librarians and how librarians, who want to be treated properly in status as professionals, understand the professionalism.
