인터넷 상의 정보 표현 및 교환의 표준 포맷으로 XML이 제안되었으며, 다양한 응용 분야에서 XML을 기반으로 하는 많은 데이타 표현 포맷들이 제안되어졌다. 기본적으로, XML 데이타의 검색 성능을 결정하는 주된 요소는 XML 데이타를 어떠한 형태로 저장 관리 하는 가이다. 본 논문에서는 현재까지 제안 된 대표적인 XML 데이타 관리 기법 및 시스템들을 저장 미디어에 따라서 분류하고 각 기법의 특성을 소개한다. 현재까지 제안된 XML 데이타 관리 기법들은 각각이 고유한 장단점을 지니고 있다. 따라서, 보다 효율적인 XML 데이타 검색을 지원하기 위한 XML 데이타 저장 관리 기법에 대한 활발한 연구가 필요한 설정이다.
XML is proposed as the standard format for representing and exchanging data on the Internet. Also diverse data formats, which are based on the XML, are proposed in various application areas. Basically, the main factor that determines the performance of the XML data retrieval is the method of storing XML In this paper, we classified several distinguished method of storing XML according to the storage scheme. The methods, which are introduced in this paper, have their own pros and cons. Therefore, more intensive researches about the XML storage methods to support more efficient XML data search are required.
