이 논문의 목적은 현장사서의 관점에서 현행 문헌정보학교육의 문제점을 도출해 내고 바람직한 개선방안을 제시해 보고자 하는데 있다. 논의에 필요한 데이터의 수집을 위해 공공, 대학, 전문, 그리고 학교도서관에서 근무하는 사서들을 대상으로 이메일 설문조사를 실시하여 347명으로부터 유효 답변을 회수하였다. 수집한 데이터에 근거하여, 1) 현장 사서들은 현행 문헌정보학의 교과과정과 내용에 대해 어떻게 평가하고 있으며, 2) 그들이 생각하는 사서가 갖추어야 할 전문적인 능력은 무엇인지, 나아가, 3) 현장에서 요구하는 능력을 갖춘 사서를 양성하기 위해서 문헌정보학 교육이 담보해 내야하는 내용은 무엇인지에 대해 논의하였다.
The purpose of this article lies in investigating the problems and limitations of the current LIS education in Korea with an emphasis on the viewpoints of librarians. Also identified are the librarians suggestions for a better LIS educational system, in particular, for the renovation of the current LIS curriculum to upgrade the competencies of future librarians. To this end, 347 librarians from public, academic, special, and school libraries were e-mail surveyed. And the collected data were analyzed and interpreted to find out the specific problems and suggestions based on the types of libraries as well as the overall problems and suggestions.
