Continuing advances in the performance of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) materials have allowed FRPs to move from playing a secondary role in infrastructure to one that is a feasible construction alternative. But, epoxy material is vulnerable to fire. So, a wider research of knowledge and established methods for prediction of fire performance is requested to expand into building applications, where fire is a critical concern. This paper aims to evaluate the fire resistance of carbon plate reinforced concrete members strengthened by insulating materials under fire, and to recommend design information for safe use of carbon plate in buildings. Experimental studies were conducted to evaluate the temperature characteristics of small-scale concrete slabs strengthened with carbon plate and insulated with a unique two-component fire protection system. The thickness of the insulation was established as a parameter vital to the fire performance of FRP-strengthened reinforced concrete members. Thus, the insulation thickness was varied to study its ability to maintain low temperatures at the epoxy layer, which are critical to preventing delamination of FRP and insulation.
