The urban development weighted on development density has been focused not on the quality of urban environment but on the quantitative expansion of a city. Among the environmental problems from a lack of consideration for urban environment, the urban heat island phenomenon has become a vicious cycle due to the rapid urbanization and increasing exhaust heat. As a solution of this problem, Wind-Corridor is necessary to be discussed intensively. It is important to ensure the mobility of incoming cold fresh air into the inner city for the sake of a pleasant urban environment. When it comes to the urban planning, a building plans should be developed not to hinder the wind flow based on the urban climate characteristics by using GIS. In this study, a utilization of air flow simulation technology was suggested in initial stage of urban design to improve an urban climate-related environment through the activation of Wind-Corridor. The conclusions of this study are as follow: First, the air flow simulations were performed without the microclimate model by using geographic information systems (GIS) and WindNinja1.0. This regards as an useful method to evaluate air flow in the initial design stages. Second, a constant airflow simulation condition is built by limiting the type of terrain to flat land and wind speed input to a specific range. And the average air flow rate is derived by simulations with various factors such as slendernesses, spaces, and heights of the building. Finally, the smaller air flow rate should be considered in the initial design stage to maintain the wind passage of cold fresh air flowing into a city.
