The objective of the study is to investigate the characteristics of toluene emissions from wall and floor finishing materials installed by a bonding method. VOC emissions from the wall and floor finishing materials installed by a bonding method as composite materials were compared with those from the individual materials. We measured the VOC emissions from a plywood composite material and wallpaper composite materials as well as a plywood, a wallpaper, a gypsum board, and adhesives as individual materials using a small-scale chamber. It is found that the toluene is the most detected individual VOC from adhesives for installing wall and floor finishing materials. The test results demonstrate that the different thickness and diffusion characteristics of the wall and floor finishing materials, and substrate installed underneath these finishing materials can result in the different toluene emission rates.
