This study suggests development direction of Compact City type urban development purpose of sustainable urban development. The suggestions are based on analysis of overseas Compact City strategies and the development projects. Following are the findings of this study: First, in the late 20th century, Compact-City has been suggested as standard of urban development in the developed countries, and this promoted urban development plans were presented in detail. Second, the development strategies cases of overseas Compact City were analyzed, as a result, there are differences in the development direction of Compact City type urban development for the region. In addition, the Compact City urban development planning should be separated by an essential elements and region elements. Third, the urban development projects in Hanam were analyzed through a strategy of Compact City type urban development. As a result, Hanam strategy and overseas Compact City type urban development showed a difference, and the development direction of Compact City type urban development of the domestic form seems disproportionate.
