A machine for microforming was designed and built around a custom low-frequency, high-power Terfenol-D transducer coupled to a flextensional type lever system for displacement amplification. Separate bolt-on flexure joints were used instead of a traditional monolithic flextensional lever system design in order to reduce cost. A mathematical model of the transducer and lever system was created that matches blocked force with an 11% error and maximum displacement with a 2% error. Thermal response and hysteresis vs. frequency response were also tested. Using an 18 mm diameter 200 mm long Terfenol-D rod and a lever ratio of 10, the system is capable of up to 365 N of force and 1.6 mm of displacement with resolution of less than $1{mu}m$.
