본 논문에서는 메타포 현상과 믿음 명제가 상황 의미론적으로,특히 EKN(Extended Kamp Notation:Cooper[5])체계상 유사성이 있음을 밝히고 이를 EKN 도식화함으로써 인간이 메타포문을 이해하는 인지 과정을 모형화하고자 하였다.EKN은 언어의 인지적 이해 과정을 모형화한 DRS에 상황 이론적 해석을 위한 기재가 추가된 표상 구조이다."인생은 나그네길"이라는 문장은"인생"이라는 tenor와 "나그네길"이라는 vehicle로 이루어진 메타포문이다.만일 철수가 인생은 나그네길이라고 발화했거나 혹은 그렇게 믿고 있다고 할때 인느 철수가 견지하고 있는 인생에 대한 어떤 관점(viewpoint)을 전제하고 있는 것이다.Wilks,Barnden,and Wang[19]의 주장처럼 모든 메타포는 일종의 의사성 믿음(pseudo-belief) 이기 때문이다.다시 말해 믿음문과 메타포문은 "관점"을 전제한다는 점에서 유사성을 갖는다.이러한 논거위에서 본 논문에서는 메타포문 분석을 위해 믿음 명제 EKN을 이용하였다.이로써 EKN의 효용성을 입증하고 나아가 상황 의미론의 연구 영역 확장에 기여학자 한다.긴장과 해소의 중간 단계가 요구되는 복잡한 언어행위 속하는 메타포의 해석 원리를 조명함으로써 우리는 인간의 인식 메카니즘 이해에 한걸음 더 접근하게 될 것이다. 주제어:의미론,상황 의미론,메타포

In the paper,I attempt to verify some similarities between belief statements and metaphoric phenomena within Situation Semantics,especially within Cooper"s [5]Extended Kamp Notation,or EKN.As a representation structure system.EKN modifies and replaces Kamp&Reyle"s[12]DRS for sitution-theoretic interpretations.When someone,say John,believes that life is a sailing boat,it means that he keeps a viewpoint of "life-as-sailing boat".Likewise, if John states that life is a sailing boat,it also means that he has a viewpoint of "life-as-sailing boat."Belief statements and metaphoric phenomena are silmilar in that they both have viewpoints,or transition of viewpoints.The notion of viewpoint holds the same concept as that of background situation in EKN.Metaphoric phenomena can thus be analyzed in the same way as belief statements are analyzed within the EKN framework.
