The purpose of this study is to figure out the desirable imagery of a teacher recognized by
secondary students in schools for the visually impaired nationwide. This paper draws on a number
of survey sources to come up with responsible results and findings from the study are as followed.
First, in the teacher's profile section, most blind and low-visioned students answered that
teacher's age is not an import factor to decide their preference for a teacher. Also, both male
and female students identically chose "gentle voice" as their most favorable type of voice.
Secondly, in the teaching style section, the highest number of students answered they want the kind
of teacher who motivates each student to study autonomously. They had also chosen in the highest
percentage the question about what comes first in terms of teacher's knowledge and background. They
preferred teachers who have well-rounded knowledge, culture, and common sense.
Thirdly, in the student guidance section, the most preferred teacher was the one who tries
to have as many conversations as possible with students and help them solve problems by
themselves. However, students showed different opinions on punishment. Middle schoolers are
mainly against any type of punishment while high schoolers acknowledge that mild punishments
may be needed in school.
Fourthly, in the human relation section, the best favored teacher type chosen by middle
school students or those students with congenital visual impairments. They are the ones who
tell them various stories in interesting ways, at the same time, high school students or those
with acquired visual impairments preferred teachers who can detect students' talent and
courage them to develop it. On the other hand, middle schoolers or those with congenital visual
impairments answered identically that the least favored teacher type for them is the one who
frequently nagging or getting angry. The groups of high schoolers or those with total blindness
chose a teacher whose words and behaviors do not correspond as the type they least prefer.
