The purpose of this study was to investigate finding on the factors related to
college adjustment of student with disabilities by conducting a meta-analysis. For this
study, we reviewed 18 correlational studies of college adjustment of student with
disabilities and identified three main factors(Demographic characteristics, Personal
characteristics External characteristics) and 12 sub-factors(sex, age, type of
disability, degree of disability, college admission, on set of disability, Affective state
and traits, Core self-evaluation, Disability acceptance, Career, Social support,
University environment). 12 correlation effect sizes from the studies were analyzed
by CMA-3(Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Ver.3) program.
As results of this study were as follows:
It was founded that most of the effect size was Affective state and traits(.68), and
Large effect size was Core self-evaluation(.53), University environment(.55), and
medium effect size was Disability acceptance(.47), Career(.45), Social support(.38).
But type of disability(.10) and degree of disability(.11) were statistically significant,
whereas the effect size was small.
Based on our study, we provide direction for future research related to college
adjustment of student with disabilities and proposes practical implications in program
development for student with disabilities.
