This study aimed at providing the basic information on learning modes and styles
with respect of demographic characteristics and preferred personality type in
secondary students with visual impairments. A total of the 97 subjects were taken for
research in junior high schools and senior high schools sited in Seoul and North
Chungcheong Province. MBTI and Kolb’s learning style inventory(LSI) have been used
to assess participants' learning styles and personality types. Results of this study can
be summarized as follows; First, significant difference in a learning mode, that is,
active experiment(AE) was found by gender or level of functional vision. Also, there
was significant difference in a learning mode, that is, reflective observation(RO) by
the SN(Sensing-Intuition) index. Second, significant difference in frequencies of
learning style of the students with visual impairments was found by level of functional
vision. While the most preferred style of the students with blindness was the
diverging style, that of the students with low vision was accommodating style.
However, there was no significant difference in frequencies of learning style of the
students with visual impairments by preferred personality type. It is important that
learning mode and learning style of students with visual impairments could also be
assessed and understood according to the demographic variables or preferred
personality type.
