Based on the literature review, this study was attempted to see the beneficial effects of oriental medicine on
the aging process by using the senescence accelerated mouse (SAM). Paraquat (PQ, 2×10-7 mg/kg) was administered to
the four-month old senescence accelerated mouse to induce the oxidative and cellular damage. The experimental groups
are administered with YukmiGa followed by PQ treatment. The lung samples were obtained after sacrificing them for electron
microscopical observation. In the lung, PQ caused a hugh damage on pneumocyte type I and type II cells from cellular
toxicity. In the YukmiGa treatment groups, slightly damaged cellular organelles were observed from 1 day to 6-day treatment
groups. These experimental groups showed normal endothelial cells of capillary and alveolar endothelial cells. It is
assumed that YulmiGa could suppress the cellular toxicity from PQ treatment in the lung. Also, YulmiGa seems good effect
for its anti-aging action at in the SAM model.
