The study was aimed to investigate the anticancer and antioxidant activity of several medicinal plants on DENA
and CCl4 treated Rats. The rats were divided into three groups or four groups?: normal group (Nor), cirrhosis and hepatic
cancer inducing control group (Con), and medicinal plants extract 320 mg/kg/day (Exp) administered groups to Con. The
body weight decreased significantly in Con compared with the Nor group. The weight of liver/100 g body weight decreased
significantly (p<0.05) in Con, but increased in Exp compared with Nor group. The ratio of neutrophil significantly increased
(p<0.05) in the Con and Exp compared with Nor group. The activities of transaminase, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and
lactacte dehydrogenase (LDH) were significantly increased (p<0.05) in the Con compared with Nor group, but decreased
in the Exp compared with Con group. Alpha fetoprotein (AFP) increased the most in the Con compared to Exp group. The
results of light microscopical observation, a number of hepatocytes were damaged in the Con compared with Nor group
and medicinal plants extract administerd groups. The number of hepatic p53 positive cells was reduced in the Exp compared
with Con group. Based on these results, it is suggested that administration of several medicinal plants extract protective
liver from carcinogenesis and oxidative stress induced by DENA and CCl4 in rats.
