This study analyzed measurements to investigate the effects of shoe styles on gait patterns. This week-long study consisted of 13 healthy adult participants whose gait patterns were measured while using a treadmill. The following were measured: left and right forefoot pressure, left and right rear foot pressure, right foot total pressure, left and right foot step change, left and right foot step time, right foot stance and swing, left and right forefoot force, left and right foot heel strike. All measured results above were not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Significant effects were found for left foot stance, swing, double stance, mid-foot force, mid-stance pressure, and heel strike (p < 0.05). According to the results, when wearing slippers, steps become elongated and pressure moves towards the back of the foot. When wearing dress shoes, steps become shorter and pressure moves towards the front of the foot causing abnormal gait patterns. Finally, when wearing athletic shoes, pressure is evenly distributed and gait patterns are stabilized the most.
