In this research, we will conduct a case study of guidelines on core subjects of social welfare by college in Japan and compare and analyze them to see under what name, format, and contents those subjects are offered. The purpose is to compare and analyze the situations of each college in Japan for social welfare subjects and make suggestions based on our findings in order to contribute to the advancement of social welfare education in Korea. Social welfare education in Japan first started in Japan Women's University in 1921, and American method of welfare education led by GHQ was promoted. In 1987 social worker and care worker law was enacted under which social welfare education developed. Our analysis focused on policy and practice subjects offered in Japan Women's University, Japan College of Social Work, and Kwansei Gakuin University. Our findings are as follows: First, course credits are allotted to lecture in accordance with the characteristics and importance of the subjects, which are comprised in series, so that curriculum can be offered systematically. Second, courses are reorganized led by the government so that they are reformed in uniform and systematic fashion as previously planned. Third, various social welfare education is offered in accordance with aim, trait, and ideology of each college, social awareness, and public needs.
