The purpose of the study is to explore the effects of social and emotional learning program on the
social and emotional competencies of elementary school students and their community consciousness. A
total of 27 elementary school students participated as subjects. The SEL program was reorganized based on
the following verified programs; Strong Kids, PATHS, NVC which validity was proved already. The SEL
program was conducted by team teaching of one homeroom teacher and two researchers who are doctoral
candidates. The study used the mixed methods research to obtain fluent data of the effectiveness of the
SEL program. To obtain quantitative data, Social and emotional competency and community consciousness
inventories were administrated before and after the SEL program and the gap was verified by t-test. To
obtain qualitative data, teacher interview, students interview, open questionnaires, and emotional journal
were administrated and analyzed using contents analysis. The result shows that both Social and emotional
competencies and community consciousness were improved significantly, and implications were discussed.
