This study was conducted to explore the effects of storytelling typed thinking skills training program on
non-verbal intelligence and the public speaking skills of children. 31 children (16 children of experimental
group and 15 children of control group) aged 7-8 attending daycare programs of S Elementary School
located in Yangsan-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, participated in this experiment. K-CTONI-2 was used for the
intelligence test and public speaking skills were measured in following criteria: an understanding of story
contents, an understanding of logic in story, and presentation skills. Non-equivalent control group design
was adopted and pre - and post tests for both groups were taken. The results of the research are as
follows: First, thinking skill training program increased the score of the analogy subtest of non-verbal
intelligence. Second, thinking skill training program turned out to improve children's public speaking
skills; in detail, some noticeable effects were observed, especially, in the criteria of logic-based
understanding and presentation skill, where the effectiveness of thinking skills training program was
clearly seen.
