Social Studies directly defines citizenship as an aim of the subject, causing the reaction to change sensitively to the transformation of each era. Historically, educational approaches reflect the culture or social atmosphere of that specific era. To check this, I found the connection between the trait of a special era and its educational changes. I have also identified the historical content of Global education, the trait of modern society. Through this process, I was able to confirm that Globalization is not shown abruptly; instead it continues to have a global perspective in social studies.
Based on this fact, I tried to find the role of Global education in social studies, especially in the elementary level. Although there are many arguments such as: what is social studies and what is being taught, there is an agreement between the aim of social studies and its integral character. Global education can be the framework for the integration of diverse contents of divided subject matters such as history, geography, politics, economics, and so on. Korea has three separated parts in social studies consisting of history, geography, and general society. Global education can create various perspectives for unification of knowledge using the training of students who have the rational decision making ability when they meet personal or social problems.
