본 논문은 국내외에 현존하는 퇴계 이황(李滉1501〜1570)의 역학 문 헌 판본의 현황을 그 형식적 체계를 중심으로 하는 서지사항을 살펴보고 나서 이들에 대한 기존의 연구성과를 개관하고 이를 통하여 퇴계 역학에 관한 미래적 연구 방향을 전망해 보았다. 『啓蒙傳疑』와 『三經釋義』 중 『周易釋義』는 퇴계역학의 핵심을 이루는 저술이다. 『계몽전의』 와 『주역 석의』 판본은 전국의 대학 도서관과 국립중앙도서관, 국회도서관, 한국 학중앙연구원장서각 등 정부 및 여러 학술 기관에 산재해 있다. 그 구체 적 형식과 내용은 판형, 발행사항, 특기사항, 지질, 소장처 등으로 살펴 볼 수 있다. 퇴계 역학사상을 연구하는 데 핵심 문헌으로서 『계몽전의』 판본은 간행지역, 시기, 간행자, 소장처, 紙質, 그리고 각각의 판본의 고유한 특징 등에서 매우 다양한 양태로 국내외의 여러 도서관에 소장되어 있다. 『계몽전의』 와 『주역석의』에 대한 여러 연구논문은 각각 일정한 특성 을 가지고 있다. 『계몽전의』에 대한 연구 논문들은 부분적으로 의리역학 과의 상관관계를 언급하면서도, 대체로 상수역학적 관점과 특성을 강조 하고 있다. 반면 『주역석의』에 관한 연구 성과들은 대부분 이 저술이 의 리역학적 요소를 가지는 것으로 이해하고 있다. 퇴계의 역학에 관한 연구에서 특히 주목해야 할 부분은 『주역』의 구 성요소인 상과 의리가 성리학의 토대가 되는 그의 역학에서 어떤 상관적 의미로 작용하는가에 대하여 착안하는 일이다. 다시 말하면 퇴계는 『주 역』의 상과 의리를 결합함으로써 자연과 인간 사이에 연관되어 있는 必 然과 當然의 세계를 연속성을 가지는 것으로 이해한다는 것이다. 따라서 퇴계 역학에 관한 새로운 연구의 방향은 조선 성리학의 이기론과 심성 론, 그리고 실천론을 한 단계 심화된 수준에서 연구할 수 있는 가능성을 상과 의리 사이의 연결 맥락을 통하여 탐색하는 것은 퇴계 역학을 연구 하는 미래적 방향이라 할 수 있다.
This essay examined situation of Toegye Lee Hwang's Documents Version of the Book of Changes which existed in domestic and foreign with formal system as the center and surveyed the fruition of studies about these. And then viewed future orientation of research of Toegye's Yixue through this. ChimengchunI and the Annotation of the Book of Changes in Samkyungseokeu are writing composing the heart of Toegye's Yixue. ChimengchunI and the Korean Annotation of the Book of Changes in Samkyungseokeu are writing composing the heart of Toegye's Yixue. Edition of ChimengchunI and the Annotation of the Book of Changes straggles at government and several science institution such as the nation university library, the National Central Library, the National Assembly Library, The Jangseogak Library of the Academy of Korean Studies etc. Its concrete form and contents examined in the light of book size, publication matter, special note, paper nature and holding institution. ChimengchunI editions as the heart literature of Toegye's Yixue thought are represented in native and foreign several library with the very various aspect according to publication area, period, publisher, holding institution, paper nature, and the unique characteristics of respective edition. The earlier studies of ChimengchunI was composed of various forms from translation involving comment and explanation to the research regarding ChimengchunI as the establishment of cosmological basis for Toegye's philosophy, one considering it balancer of symbol & number and moral principle. Also, one paper understood that ChimengchunI very well represents principle of symbol-number theory through application of sound of Han Dynasty symbol-number theory about five sound[五音] and six melody[六律]. In sequence, research of the Annotation of the Annotation of the Book of Changes was not only more later than ChimengchunI about which translation and annotation was realized in the early 1970s, but also research result of it was not conspicuous. The several researches of ChimengchunI and the Annotation of the Book of Changes have respectively its own characteristics. The several research papers of ChimengchunI partially made reference to correlation with moral principle theory of I-Ching, but mainly emphasized viewpoint and character of symbol-number theory of it. Whereas several researches of ChimengchunI mostly understood that this writing has characteristics of moral principle theory of I-Ching. What one must especially observe in the research of Toegye's Yixue is that one understands symbol and moral principle in his Yixue have any correlative meaning. In other words, it is the fact that Toegye regards realm of necessity and oughtness being involved between nature and man as unity of continual combination by combining symbol with moral principle of I-Ching. Therefore the future research direction of Toegye's Yixue must be that researcher explores possibility of deepening research of Li-Chi theory and mind-human nature theory and theory of practice of Joseon Dynasty Neo-Confucianism through link context between symbol and moral principle.
