This study was designed to understand the romantic relationship which is an important developmental task of college students. For this, we confirmed the influence of self-esteem, rejection sensitivity and empathy to the romantic relationship satisfaction of college students. We also investigated the mediating effect of rejection sensitivity and empathy in the relation between self-esteem and romantic relationship satisfaction. 286 college students who have experienced the romantic relationship conducted survey that measures self-esteem, rejection sensitivity, empathy, and romantic relationship satisfaction. In order to investigate the relations between each variable, correlation analysis was done and the mediating effect was analyzed by structural equating model. As results of this study, first, self-esteem showed a positive relationship between empathy and romantic relationship satisfaction, and showed a negative relationship between rejection sensitivity; second, in the structural equating model, self-esteem did not directly affect relationship satisfaction, however, with higher self-esteem, rejection sensitivity was lower, empathy was higher, and romantic relationship satisfaction was higher. Also the result produced that rejection sensitivity and empathy fully meditated the relation between self-esteem and romantic relationship satisfaction. Finally, the academic significance, suggestions and limitations of the study were discussed.
