This study aims to analyze teachers‘ demands to strengthen their competency in various
ways. To achieve the goal, the current methods and ways to strengthening teacher’s
competencies were classified. Also we analyzed the differences in questionnaires and
backgrounds of teachers (kindergarten, elementary, middle and high school) using survey in
Sejong Special Self-Governing City Office of Education. Results showed that teachers
recognized that their efforts and level of teacher's competency were high. Individual research
and in-service teacher's training programs were favorable in the methods in strengthening
teacher’s competency. For ways in strengthening teacher’s competency, customized training
in life-cycle and comprehensive supports to teachers showed great effects on increasing
competency. In terms of differences in background of teachers, kindergarten, elementary
school teachers, teachers with less experience, senior teachers group were affirmative on
methods and ways to strengthening teacher’s competency. Based on the results from this
study, more effective methods and ways of strengthening teacher’s competency were
suggested and accounted for future studies.
