본 연구는 아동언어습득연구의 역사적 흐름을 고찰하는데 그 목적이 있다. 첫째, 일기식 연구기로 아동발달의 일부로서 아동 의 언어를 일기식으로 기록하는 방법으로 1876년경부터 1926년경까지 계속되어 왔다. 둘째, 다량의 언어자료표집방식으로 1926 년경부터 1957년경까지 계속되었고 셋째, 언어습득의 장기적 언어표집추적조사방법으로 1950년 이후 현재까지 지속되어오고 있 다. 이러한 아동언어습득에 관한 연구방법의 구분이 절대적이라고는 할 수 없고 연구방식의 역사적 흐름과 특성을 고려하여 분 류하였으며, 이와 더불어 각 기간에 나타났던 아동의 음운습득과 문법습득 그리고 화용습득에 관한 연구를 살펴보았다.
The purpose of this study is to review a historical overview of child language studies, which has gone through several changes over the years in both methods and theories. This study identified three major periods of child language studies: the period of diary studies(1876-1926), the period of large sample studies (1926-1957), and the period of longitudinal studies (1957-present). In addition, we observed the characteristics of phonological acquisition, grammatical acquisition, and pragmatic acquisition. The present study also provided predictions and insights of language acquisition studies. The field of language acquisition starts with linguistic theory and then turns to questions of language acquisition.
