The study has started fromthe recognition that the change of international environment becomes very important
factor when we discuss on the education. It concentrated on the influence from rapid changing globalization trend
to the elementary education and teacher education. The study reviewed the characteristics of the globalization
trend in education such as political-economical transformation, cultural transformation, informative technological
revolution and international cooperation.
The study identified the emerging tasks of the elementary teacher education in the future as follows:
1. Elementary education for the next generationmust be concentrated to cultivate the globalmind.
2. Basic education is necessary for the overseas Korean on the Korean culture and Korean language
3. Global courses such as world history, world geography, various cultures of the world must be included in
teacher education courses.
4. Foreign language courses including second foreign language should be emphasized in the pre-service,
in-service teacher education.
5. Opportunities of the international experience such as exchange program, visiting other countries must be
expanded in the process of teacher education.
6. Role of the teacher education programshould be specified: pre-service programfocuses on the flexible thinking
competence to prepare for the social change, in-service programfocuses on the functional competence.
