본 연구는 노인이 지각하는 부양규범이 자녀와의 결속 및 갈등, 그리고 자신의 우울증상과 어떠한 관련이 있는가를 살펴본 것이었다. 강원도 춘천 지역에 거주하면서 자녀를 1명 이상 둔 60세 이상의 노인 304명을 대상으로 조사한 결과, 부양규범의식 지각은 무엇보다도 그들의 경제적 자원에 의해 좌우되고 있었다. 또 부양에 관한 규범의식 지각은 자녀들과의 접촉기회 증가, 자녀와의 갈등, 및 우울 증상과 관련이 높았던 반면, 규범의식 지각은 자녀와의 정서 및 질적 관계유대, 그리고 자녀와의 기능적 교환과는 관련이 없었 다. 본 연구의 결과들은 노인들이 노후생활의 질을 높이기 위해서 부양에 대한 규범의식의 변화, 이러한 의식변화를 위한 사회교육, 그 리고 노인에 대한 공적 부양의 필요성을 제기하고 있다.
This study was to investigate how the elderly people perceived the caregiving norms that adult children should care for their old parents, and to analyze its relations with the intergenerational solidarity and conflict, and with depression. The participants were 304 community-dwellers who were over 60 years old and had at least one child. The major finding was that the elderly people's perception of the caregiving norms were influenced primarily by the economic resources that the elderly have. In addition, the elderly parents who persisted the traditional norms on caregivings tend to have more opportunities to contact with their adult children, to have more conflict with the children, and to show higher degree of the depressive symptom. The findings were discussed in the context of making the quality of life for the elderly people higher with the social education.
