Based on experiences of narrative therapists, this study aimed to explore counseling process and
characteristics of narrative therapy rested on post-modern approach by understanding the important
considerations and process of this narrative therapy. For the study, I listened to experiences of therapists
who are practicing in the field of narrative therapy and analyze story of them by using a
phenomenological method.
The result shows that, in narrative therapy, narrative therapy proposed the roles of clients and therapists
different from conventional therapy approach. participants(Co-researchers) believed what is important in
narrative therapy is the viewpoint to be look at the problem of the client and role of the therapist. For
the participants, the focus in therapy is not the client but the story of the client and key to
problem-solving was to look at the story in different perspectives. And, they believed the role of therapists
is more important than anything else. Participants(Co-researcher) said they engage in therapy as a partner
in the life story of the client, a curiosity that wishes to know about the client, and therapist who listens
to the client without prejudice, with the attitude of taking philosophical view in narrative therapy as their
life philosophy. And, the focus in the narrative therapy process was on therapy without an evaluation,
therapy without a specific goals, and therapy that allows the story of the client to flow without an order
or process. Based on the analysis, in the discussion section, the process and characteristics of narrative
therapy were explored in comparison to conventional therapy approach and its meaning were discussed.
