For women, marriage, childbearing, and child-rearing are important
turning points in their lives. This research was conducted in order
to understand women who raise preschool children and their
changing experience through participation of self-help group. Participants
of this study were 6 women who raise preschool children, and all
women have participated in ‘Housewives Self-Help Group’ (전업맘 자
조모임) of A community welfare center in Seoul more than one year.
The result is divided into three categories, ‘A journey to find myself
(나를 찾아가는 여정)’, ‘Not alone but together(혼자가 아닌 우리)’,
‘Widened world(넓어진 세상)’, and these categories are divided into
subcategories and analyzed. The results of the research are as follow
s:Participants show women’s personal growth and changes, expansion
of social support, and increased desire for participation in community.
Based on the results of this research, the implications for social
welfare practice were discussed to support women who raise preschool
children and activate women’s self-help group.
