This study implemented comparative analysis on factors that affect resilience for general
adolescents vs. adolescents in poverty using Seoul Education Longitudinal Study of 2010 data.
Authors applied multiple regression model to analyze determinants of resilience for total
adolescent group in advance. Regression results showed that sex, self-concept, health state,
achievement goal, parent-adolescent relation, peer relation, perception on the teacher, and club
activity affect the resilience for adolescents. Estimating separately for general adolescents and
adolescents in poverty, discernible differences were found in factors affecting the resilience
between them. The significant factors affecting the resilience for adolescents in poverty were
limited compared with general adolescents. Specifically, sex, self-concept, health state,
achievement goal, parent-adolescent relation, peer relation, perception on the teacher, and club
activity are significant factors that explain the resilience for general adolescents. For adolescents
in poverty, however, sex, self-concept, peer relation, and perception on the teacher have positive
impacts on their resilience. Authors briefly discussed implications that can enhance adolescents’
resilience based on the major findings.
