The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between Need-Strength of couple and their marital satisfaction. This research was intended: (1) To confirm Glasser & Glasser’s opinions(1996) on Need-Strength and marital satisfaction. (2) To find out which Basic Needs of husbands and wives influence their marital satisfaction, respectively (3) To verify the hypothesis that the similarities of couples’ Basic Needs are expected to be positively associated with their marital satisfaction Subjects were a community sample of 190 married couples in C-city and filled out the Basic Needs Inventory and Marital Satisfaction Inventory. The results are as follows: First, The higher levels of love & belonging needs and fun needs of husbands and wives are positively associated with their marital satisfaction. But the part of Glasser’s opinions that similar levels of couples’ survival needs would be associated with their marital satisfaction is not confirmed. And the lower levels of power needs and freedom needs would be associated with their marital satisfaction is not confirmed. Second, The marital satisfaction of husbands is significantly associated with husband’s and wife’s love & belonging need, respectively. And the marital satisfaction of wives is significantly associated with wife’s love & belonging need and fun need, and husband’s survival need. And the marital satisfaction of couples is significantly associated with wife’s love & belonging need, husband’s power need, wife’s fun need, and husband’s survival need. Third, The similarities of need-strength of couple are more associated with wife’s marital satisfaction than husband’s. Higher levels of similarity of couples’ need-strength are positively correlated with higher levels of the marital satisfaction of wives.
