This study investigated a suggestion for Korea’s education for sustainable development (ESD) of early childhood. This was done by looking into EYLF, Australia’s basic frame for the early childhood curriculum, from the ESD perspective. For this, the researchers visited the Australian education institution that trains the early childhood teachers. Place examination and related professional interview was conducted, along with analysis and examination of the literatures on early childhood curriculum the Australian government has published. Australia’s ESD started as an eco friendly environmental education. It has developed and now deals with the human rights, peace, citizen, and multicultural education as well. In fact, EYLF Australia includes environmental education, children friendly human right education, and the communal multicultural education in their educational curriculum and in real life. Based on the distinctive quality of ESD in Australia’s early childhood education and practice, it is expected that the environmental education operated in Korea’s field of early childhood education and practice will reestablish into the integrated education for sustainable development that can actualize the sustainable life socially, economically, and environmentally.
