This study aims to assess the occupational skills of workers with developmental
disabilities, and analyze the effect it has on their occupational maintenance capabilities.
This leads to practical implications that improve the occupational maintenance of people
with developmental disabilities. To this purpose, a survey analysis was performed on 150
people in 25 occupational rehabilitation centers located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do
Province from 2015. 10. 12. to 2015. 11. 13. The results were as follows : First,
occupational skill rises rapidly with high levels of support from family members and
rehabilitation staff, relying less on conceptual and social skills. Second, factors such as
occupational attitude, job performance capability, coworker cooperation, and job
characteristics had a significant effect on occupation maintenance. Third, the effect of
occupational skill on occupation maintenance appeared to be statistically significant.
Hence, this study serves as a guideline to implement measures to enhance the
occupational skills of workers with developmental disabilities and improve their
occupation maintenance capabilities.
