The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of Cognitivebehavioral
group art therapy program on the self-esteem and empathy of
chronic schizophrenic patients. The subjects of this study are Schizophrenic
patients from 20 to 60 years of age who were diagnosed based on DSM-V
at Health Promotion center K city, Jeonnam. And they have taken dose
medication over 5 years. Of 24 subjects who notified their intention to attend
the program, after 12 experimental domains and 12 control domains were
randomly assigned, experimental group was implemented overall 15 times, 90
minutes once a week, from June 3, 2014 to September 9. But cotrol group
was not given any art therapy program. To check the effect of
Cognitive-behavioral group art therapy program on the self-esteem and
empathy, the study tested paired sample t-test and analyzed using SPSS 18
statistical program. The study results are as follows. First, self-esteem and
positive elements of experimental group applying Cognitive-behavioral group
art therapy program were improved, but negative elements were decreased.
Secondly, not only empathy ability of chronic schizophrenic patients applying
Cognitive-behavioral group art therapy program were improved, but also as
sub-domain, emotional and Cognitive elements were improved. To sum these
results up, the Cognitive-behavioral group art therapy program is helpful to
improve self-esteem and empathy ability of chronic schizophrenic patients.
