The purpose of this study is to identify trends in career success research in Korea, and to provide insights into
future research activities. In order to achieve the purpose, a total of 72 articles referring to career success in
their title or author keyword were assessed by using content and semantic network analysis. The aspects, such as
academic fields, research methods, objects, and variables were considered in the content analysis of the articles.
As a result of the content analysis, it can be concluded that career success research has prominently been
conducted in social sciences, and there is a transition of academic interest from business administration to
education. As per the research methods, quantitative method is used the most and comparative method is also
used frequently. Workplace employees are targeted the most in the research, and the number of research
targeting professionals has been increased. Regarding the variables related to career success, studies, which
include objective variables, are more than one with subjective variables. The related variables at the individual
and organizational level have been taken in account in the research more than one at the family level. The
network analysis shows the following results. There is a difference of selection of the variables according to
academic fields. In business administration, job and organization related variables are preferred more than
individual motivational variables are in the education field. With regards to relationship between career success
variables and related variables, there is a strong relationship between career satisfaction and employability, and
growth needs and career attitude. In addition, job and pay grade has strongly correlated with training and
work-family conflict.
