The purpose of this study was to analyze qualitatively the sand-play process and experience of 2 year-old children. Regarding the process, first, children became familiar with sand through the early exploration and function practice. Second, after the exploration of sand, they started playing with instruments. The simple play with instrument was followed by the constructive play, which meant to make something, to punch on it, to decorate with nature object, and to name it. Third, they started the representational play with words and pictures and then they did the imaginative play by making objects by sand, behavior, role, and speaking. Next is for the sand-play experience of 2 year old children. First, 2 year-old children showed not to play freely with sand because they thought that sand was dirty, due to a fact that they were not familiar with sand. Second, with a new dirt playground, they experienced new interesting play with dirt and sand. They became interested and attrcted by the sand-play and said "the sand-play playground is full of great fun". Third, children experienced being immersed in the play they liked with themselves rather than to play together even though they were in the same place.
