This study aimed at establishment of lifelong education center for intellectual
disabilities for the purpose of securing right of education which results from
enlarging opportunities of lifelong education and improving the quality of life for
them. The results of this study were as follows.
First, lifelong education center can be established to utilize several existing
facilities such as the educational facility (postsecondary education program),
business facility (sheltered workshop, social enterprise), welfare facility
(rehabilitation institution, day care and short-term care center), and their
human resources.
Second, lifelong education center can be operated as an integrated model of
postsecondary education program and business facility like sheltered workshop.
Third, postsecondary education program can be operated for the preparation
and initiation phase of lifelong education center.
Fourth, lifelong education center can take roles of sheltered workshop and
day care center.
Fifth, lifelong education center should develop spare time program like sports,
entertainment, literacy education, cultural and art, and training of daily living.
Sixth, operation hour of the lifelong education center should be identical to the
postsecondary education program or sheltered workshop so that there will be
no disconnection on the education of the students.
Seventh, cost of lifelong educational facility should come from the students
themselves and the problem related to creating profit or expense must not be
the reason for giving up the lifelong education program.
Eighth, lifelong education center should get approval from the local office of
education and staff lifelong educator.
