The study is verifying the effect of mindfulness meditation program on subjective well-being and abstinence
self-efficacy of alcoholics. The study object is alcoholics who have been staying in K social rehabilitation
facility of S City, and the study period is from 08/01/2013 to 12/03/2013. The mindfulness meditation
program consists of 10 sessions or 10 weeks, and 90 minutes for each session. 10 people out of 18 people
were randomly alloted to the experiment group and 8 people to the control group. The mindfulness
meditation program was applied to the experiment group. Both the experiment group and the control group
have been participating in the treatment community program that was offered by the same social
rehabilitation facility. In order to examine the effect after treatment, pre-tests and post-tests were performed
using subjective well-being scales and abstinence self-efficacy scales. The data was analyzed through
mixed-design ANOVA. The result of the study was as follows: as for post figure of ‘positive emotion’ as a
subscale of subjective well-being scales, the figure of the experiment group has significantly increased,
compared with the figure of the control group. As for post figure of ‘negative emotion’, the figures of the
experiment group have significantly decreased, compared with the figure of the control group. And as for post
figure of ‘satisfaction with life’,, the figure of the experiment group has significantly increased, compared with
the figure of the control group. As for post figure of alcohol abstinence self-efficacy, the figure of the
experiment group has significantly increased, compared with the figure of the control group. The result
confirms that the mindfulness meditation program will increase effectively the happiness of the alcoholics and
the alcohol abstinence self-confidence.
