Objectives: This study explored the mediating effects of self-differentiation and self-efficacy on irrational
beliefs and marital satisfaction. Method: Data from a sample of 532 married men and women living in
the Seoul Metropolitan areawere analyzed with SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 21.0. Results: Irrational beliefs of
marital relations are negatively correlated with self-differentiation, self-efficacy and marital satisfaction, and
they have an indirect effect on marital satisfaction through self-differentiation and self-efficacy. That is,
irrational beliefs directly affect self-differentiation, which, in turn, influences marital satisfaction by
mediating self-efficacy. Conclusions: The results of this study can enhance mutual understanding between
couples. The authors proposed future studies.
