This study explored the effect of a school-based play therapy program conducted as an after-school
program at an elementary school in Seoul. Three children who attended to the same special
education class participated in a 12-session-play therapy program.
The effect of play therapy program was estimated by the increase of target behaviors. As a result,
target behaviors of three children increased but there were differences of increase and decrease among
sessions. For the more effective school-based play therapy, it is required to systematically assess the
characteristics of children and to cooperate among the school, therapists, and families. It is also
necessary to make an effort to organize a play therapy environment that makes full use of
advantages of the school.
