The effects of Gowin's Vee diagram mapping activity about the process of Lavoisier's
combustion theory was investigated on both the change of nature of science and the
conceptual learning. After activity of Vee mapping, the achievement of knowledges relating
to the combustion theory was increased, and the Vee mapping activity may be construed
to contribute to improving on the achievement for conceptual knowledge. In view of
changing of recognition of the tentative nature of science, the mapping activity gave a
positive effect to students. However there was no change in recognition on the theory-laden
scientific observation. According to these results, It means that Gowin's Vee diagram
mapping activity about the process of Lavoisier's combustion theory can enhance an
achievement of conceptual learning of knowledges relating to combustion theory and can
give positive change of tentative nature of science, but the activity may be limited in change
of recognition of the theory-laden scientific observation.
