The purpose of this study was to select educational vocabulary for 4th to 6th graders to provide an
essential tool for supporting these students’ academic needs. To accomplish this objective, twelve elementary
school textbooks based on 2009 revised national curriculum were used. Content words, which function of
delivering important meaning to communicate, were extracted for analysis. The process of educational
vocabulary selection were as follows: First, words that appeared across the three grades of elementary
textbooks were selected as high frequency words. Second, each selected words were evaluated for its
importance by twelve general and special education teachers in elementary schools. A total number of 383
vocabulary, average score of 3 or higher, were finalized as the educational vocabulary for 4th to 6th
graders. This study also attempted to improve practical applicability by examining parts of speech along
with semantic domains. Results indicated that the majority vocabulary were included in the categories of
Noun among parts of speech, while Action in semantic domains. Based on results, implications for
developing curriculum based measurement on vocabulary along with limitation of this study were discussed.
