The study is to investigate the effect group art therapy activities on social skill and social maturation of
language developmental retardation adolescents. Objects of the study are three adolescents with intellectual
disability such as two male students and a female student. They were struggling because of insufficient
social skills and human relation skills that are mostly showed in language developmental retarded people.
In addition, their relationship with their peer was not amicable, so they came into conflict. Measurement
tools of this study the Korean Version of the Social Skill Rating System(K-SSRS) and social maturation.
These tools examined a variation level of the objects. ABA design, and preliminary and post designs were
used, so a change of social skills and social maturation was investigated. Through this, there was a
positive result in three sub-factors of K-SSRS based on collected data. There was a positive result in social
age, a sub-factor of social maturation. According to the study results, it brought about positive change of
social skills and social maturation of language developmental retarded adolescents, and group art therapy
activities brought about positive change of social skills and social maturation of language developmental
retarded adolescents.
